Meet Dr. Sarfehnia
Dr. Sarfehnia is an internationally known dosimetry expert with over 15 years of experience in water calorimetry and reference and absolute dosimetry. He is an associate professor at the University of Toronto's department of Radiation Oncology, and has affiliations with Toronto Metropolitan University and McGill University. He has published several seminal papers and book chapters in the area of dosimetry and water calorimetry as applied to modern treatment modalities. He was the first to show feasibility of water calorimetry in HDR Ir-192 brachytherapy and performed pioneer work in calorimetry applied to medium and high LET particle beams. He is one of the inventors (patent granted) for a novel calorimetry-based small size clinical dosimeter, Aerrow, which is currently in the commercialization process by a leading detector manufacturer. He is also the recipient of several peer-reviewed grants including CIHR and NSERC. He is a two-time recipient of the Sylvia Fedoruk prize from the Canadian Organization of Medical Physicists (COMP) for the best publication in medical physics in a given year and has received several national and international awards for his research. He is the QA lead at the Odette Cancer Centre, as well as the chair for the American Association of Physicists (AAPM) Task Group 351 on Clinical reference dosimetry in MR-guided radiotherapy as well as the AAPM working group on TG51 update committee. He serves on several other local, national and international committees including the AAPM calibration lab accreditation executive committee. He has supervised or co-supervised twenty students. If you are interested in radiation dosimetry and measurement, please don't hesitate to contact us to see if there are availabilities in our lab.
